COVID 19 Sickness

Boys and Girls Club Header

March 12, 2020
Dear club parents and guardians,
Health and safety for our club members and employees are our number one priority at Boys & Girls Club. We follow the guidance and expertise of local, state, and national health officials to help protect our Boys & Girls Club members, their families and our employees from all communicable illnesses and diseases. In the recent wake of sicknesses including, flu, colds, strep throat, and novel coronavirus (COVID-19), we are taking precautionary steps in preventing sicknesses in our club. We will be monitoring information publicized by the CDC, local health officials, and school district partners regarding the growing concerns about the spread of illnesses such as COVID-19.

While there are currently no reports of this illness originating in our community, we are working with the Southern Ute Indian Tribe’s Incident Command Management Team and tribal government to take additional measures of prevention at our club to keep our members, families and our employees informed, healthy and safe. We ask:

  1. you keep your club member at home if they are showing signs of illness.
  2. that ill club members be picked up right away after a staff member calls to report them not feeling well.
  3. upon return from Spring Break, self-report if any of your family members have traveled to California, Washington, New York or any area with a high number of confirmed COVID-19 cases.

Some steps BGCSU is taking to prepare include:

  • Requiring all club members and employees to wash their hands properly upon arrival at club and throughout the day.
  • Sharing resources and safety tips with staff, families and Club members.
  • Routinely cleaning touched surfaces (e.g., doorknobs, light switches, countertops).
  • Sending club members and employees who are sick home.
  • Continually sharing information, monitoring and communicating with health officials and school district partners.

Precautionary steps that can be taken at home include:

  • Washing your hands often and for at least 20 seconds.
  • Avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue and throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Do not share eating utensils and food.
  • Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical care.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to give us a call at 970-563-4753

Sincerely,
Boys & Girls Club of Southern Ute Indian Tribe
