“Having been raised on the Southern Ute Reservation and off the reservation during my younger years, I have a strong relationship with my culture when it comes to teaching who I am. Upon my return home in 1995, I have worked for the Southern Ute Tribe, starting at the old Sky Ute Casino for 10 yrs. in various positions and currently with Southern Ute Tribe’s TERO Division. I am a former BGC Board member when it was first being developed and have returned to be of service to the Southern Ute Boys and Girls Club. I have seen many family members children proceed thru the club, growing and thriving as the Mission states.
Growing up we didn’t have a BGC, we had summer school programs and those were what kept us outside, learning and understanding our selves and our social skills while our families worked. My contribution to BGC is to see the children enjoy what is offered by the program, the community to flourish in harmony and with my hindsight to assist the BGC program, community and children.”

“I am so thankful that Ignacio and the Pine River Valley are part of my earliest memories and now I call it home. My parents moved me back to Texas at 7, but we frequently came back for visits and maintained friendships in the area. I met my amazing husband while visiting Durango and we started out life together here. We were not able to stay, but we started an amazing adventure moving to Farmington (NM), then Keller, TX. We moved back to Farmington then to Calgary, AB which was a remarkable opportunity. After Calgary we found ourselves in Keller once again. We were able to stay in Keller for several more years until we relocated to Tulsa, OK. All these moves had beneficial and challenging adventures, and we were able to learn about different communities and cultures.
I am an extremely proud Mom to three incredible children. Being a mom was a glorious experience. I am an extremely proud to have three independent, successful grown-ups. We stayed very involved in their schools and extracurricular activities. That kept us very busy through the years. Having an “empty nest” was tough in the beginning, but we were blessed with the opportunity to purchase a business in Ignacio. As with anywhere we lived we fully jumped into the community. I was elected as a Trustee for the Town Board of Ignacio and I have served on the Ignacio Creative District Board and recently joined the Board for BGC. I will work to promote the club and support our staff as they guide the development of the youth in our program. For the future I hope to learn and understand more about the culture and history of the SUIT and the area.”
